We provide PC based control systems for Scientific instruments. We specialise in surface science applications such as XPS, Auger and SIMS. We have fitted systems to machines from the following manufacturers (all names are trademarks of the relevant companies):

XPS, Auger and SIMS Spectrometers are big, shiny and very expensive to replace. Most of the technology used in these instruments has not changed significantly over the last decade so a ten year old spectrometer may still perform almost as well as a modern replacement. The computer controlling it is another matter. Many of the large manufacturers such as VG and Kratos used PDP11 computers until relatively recently. These computers are reaching the end of their natural life.

We are able to provide a PC/Windows based system using commonly available interface cards to replace the original data system. Our systems range from simple analogue control systems (e.g. for older VG and Riber machines) to full digital control of Kratos and VG machines (e.g. Kratos 800 or VG systems with 362 or 622 SCUs). Our Software is able to perform Spectrum Acquisition, Data Manipulation and, where appropriate, Secondary Electron Imaging and Mapping.

We have over 25 systems installed on 4 continents. Our customers include University Departments, Industrial Analysis Laboratories and Government Establishments. We have systems controlling VG, Kratos, Riber and Phi instruments. Systems are often customised to suit the customers requirements exactly. Many of the features of the software have been developed through close consultation with our customers who include some of the leading figures in the surface science community.

Prices vary depending on the specification of the system required but we are significantly cheaper than original manufacturers upgrades and always will try to match any other suppliers.
